Fun Fact: Sloths are amazing swimmers! Sloths that live near rivers will drop down from their trees into rivers to seek mates or new territory.
As the resident sloth, I offer this to you: Stop what you’re doing right now, close your eyes, and breathe. Sometimes life moves by so fast as we are busy doing a lot. This is your reminder to slow down and self-care. Even if it’s for 5 minutes.

Movie of the Month In Review
Shameless plug over, let me get to it. I was recently ordered to rest by my doctor. While at home twiddling my thumbs. I came across a movie trailer: The Book of Clarence, starring LaKeith Stanfield and RJ Cyler. Directed by Jeymes Samuel. The movie chronicles the journey of Clarence, a self-proclaimed nobody, as he schemes and scams to be like the popular influencer of the time, Jesus of Nazareth. At first glance at the trailer, it appeared to be a comedy based on a man living in the time of Jesus with some modern twists. The trailer did not pique my interest. However, I like LaKeith Stanfield and decided to give it a chance.
I was thoroughly surprised! The Book of Clarence was part satire, part re-enactment, and part introspective drama. The movie opens with an excitingly funny chariot race between Clarence, his friend, Elijah (Played by RJ Cyler), and Mary Magdalene (Played by Teyonna Taylor). Clarence and Elijah were loaned the money and horse by local gangster, Jebediah the Terrible. After losing the race, Jebediah gives Clarence 30 days to come up with the money. While Clarence and Elijah think of a way to come up with the money, they see the 12 Apostles, one being Clarence’s twin brother, Thomas. Envied by their status, he approaches them and asks to be the 13th Apostle. Clarence is ridiculed by the Apostles, and told by his brother he is a nobody and always will be. Dejected, Clarence is given a pep talk by his mother and while at the local hookah bar, Clarence devises the idea to get the money: Become the next Messiah.
What follows is a fun journey where we see Clarence, a staunch non-believer, stumble and fall into his calling and eventual quest for redemption. And he takes us along for the ride. This ride includes a baptism, a very entertaining dance routine, and a surprising walk on water. The Book of Clarence is a joyous biblical epic reminiscent of Monty Python’s Life of Brian (I’m probably dating myself LOL!)
Lakeith Stanfield gives us a great performance that pulls at every feeling. He is supported by an outstanding cast that includes Alfre Woodard, David Oyelowo, and James McAvoy. Even Dr. Strange star, Benedict Cumberbatch, makes an extended cameo.
Overall, The Book of Clarence is a surprisingly good comedy that doesn’t take itself too seriously and leads me to question: Why wasn’t this movie given the promotion it deserved? Anyhoo, take a leap of faith and give this movie a shot. The Book of Clarence, starring LaKeith Stanfield and directed by Jeymes Samuel. Available wherever you rent or buy your digital entertainment.

I’ve rambled on enough, friends. Join me next month, when I review the new Snoop Dogg comedy, The Underdoggs. Until then slow down and take it easy.
