Safety…The First Time

The First Time

There’s a certain excitement that comes from meeting someone for the first time in person.

Online they were great, but how are they going to be face to face?

Unfortunately, not everyone may be how they present themselves on social media, chats, or texts. As exciting as it is, there are steps that should be taken to protect yourself.

If they have a screen name, have them verify their “government name”.  This is important to help in case any information needs to be provided. If they are unwilling to provide this, consider it a red flag.

First time meetings should always be in a public place. If possible, arrive separately. This helps in case things don’t go as planned. If you need to be picked up, do it away from your home or place of work.

Have a “Safe call”; a person you give this information to. You want to let them know the person you’re meeting, where you’re meeting, the time, your plans for the meeting, and if there are any changes. Create a safety word, phrase, or code that only you know, in case of danger.  Let them know when you arrive as well as when you’re leaving. The goal is to have fun, but also to be safe.

Remember your safety should always come FIRST.

Until next time…Have fun…Enjoy life…Be safe!
