The Principles of Self-Care
The Principles of Self-Care are built on five principles: Dignity and Respect, Responsive Care, Support, Compassion, and Wellbeing. So, let's break each one down to understand what they look like.
Dignity and Respect:
That simply means setting boundaries. Permit yourself to feel good and to want what you want. An emphasis on flourishing rather than merely surviving.
Responsive Care:
Listen to your body, your intuition, and your felt experience. The notion of intentionality is part of this principle, which focuses on the importance of making self-care a routine part of one's personal and professional life.
Support:
Find out what restores you and what actions help pour back into yourself.
Compassion:
Move from reactive to creative mode. An awareness of reciprocity in the care of self and others - the kindness you show others should be the kindness you show to yourself.
Wellbeing:
An emphasis on flourishing rather than adding it to existing obligations. Also, take steps by being aware of painful thoughts but not over-identifying with them and treating yourself with kindness instead of self-criticism. Self-care is any form of "me time," or can it be something you feel you should be doing but don't care about.
What makes self-care work is exercising self-compassion and creating a balance between self-compassion and recognizing the purpose. Those two are the most critical factors of self-care. Once these things come into play, you will start to benefit and be well on the path to the four C's, which play a part in joy, spirit, and relaxation. We will go more in-depth next month.
Remember, Self Care is all about doing what will refill your cup. Not everybody's routine will look the same. However, there will be similarities due to following the guidelines or information received in numerous ways, including these articles.
