Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 granny smith apples, cored and sliced
  • 1 tsp cinnamon plus 3 Tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  • Beat the butter and sugar with a mixer until fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
  • Beat in the vanilla
  • Add a third of the flour mixture, then beat just until mixed
  • Add half of the milk and beat again just until mixed.
  • Repeat the pattern with another third of the flour, and the rest of the milk, then end with the flour, beating just until mixed each time. (do not over mix).
  • Butter and flour one 9-inch round cake pan or three smaller 6-inch cake pans •Pour batter into cake pan(s) and insert sliced apples into top of the batter. •Sprinkle generously with mixed cinnamon and sugar
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean
  • Cool in the pan and invert over a plate. Invert again over a cake plate and then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
