Making Apple Pie Calzone

Ingredients:

  • 1 pizza dough recipe
  • 3 Apples, Peeled, Cored and thinly sliced (Gala or Fuji are great!)
  • 1/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar Packed 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

For Crust:

  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted in a microwave oven
  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cornstarch, nutmeg and cinnamon and mix well.
  • Divide dough into 3 or 4 pieces for smaller calzones or 2 pieces for larger calzones.
  • Lightly flour surface and stretch out the dough using floured hands, a lightly floured rolling pin or toss in the air if you’re adventurous!
  • Spoon sliced apples onto one side of each stretched dough.
  • Fold dough over the top of the apples and seal with a fork or press with your thumb to seal.
  • Brush melted butter on the top of each calzone and sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  • Place each calzone onto a pizza pan or baking sheet lines with parchment paper
  • Bake at 425 degrees on middle rack for 14-16 minutes minutes or until crust is golden brown.

Cool slightly and enjoy on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
