Making Apple Pie Calzone
Ingredients:
- 1 pizza dough recipe
- 3 Apples, Peeled, Cored and thinly sliced (Gala or Fuji are great!)
- 1/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar Packed 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
For Crust:
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted in a microwave oven
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
- In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cornstarch, nutmeg and cinnamon and mix well.
- Divide dough into 3 or 4 pieces for smaller calzones or 2 pieces for larger calzones.
- Lightly flour surface and stretch out the dough using floured hands, a lightly floured rolling pin or toss in the air if you’re adventurous!
- Spoon sliced apples onto one side of each stretched dough.
- Fold dough over the top of the apples and seal with a fork or press with your thumb to seal.
- Brush melted butter on the top of each calzone and sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon.
- Place each calzone onto a pizza pan or baking sheet lines with parchment paper
- Bake at 425 degrees on middle rack for 14-16 minutes minutes or until crust is golden brown.
Cool slightly and enjoy on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
